Day 32 - Thursday, July 22 – Pigeon Forge
Woke up in Nashville, Rodeway Inn. Actually nice view of city from our Rodeway Inn
I-40 heads toward Knoxville, passing exits for Oak Ridge, where nuclear fuel is made.
Crossing the Clinch River in Tennessee
In Cookeville, Tennesse, we ate KFC and bought gasoline @ $2.45.9 (WPB in $2.67 region).
Knoxville is not too impressive skyline-wise. It enjoys a reputation for worthwhile attractions and would be worth a visit, but we were unwilling to put in the time.
Approaching Knoxville
Turning off at US 441 south takes us to Sevierville (pronounced Se-veer-vil), then Pigeon Forge. Next town is Gatlinburg, just before the Smokey Mountains rise up dramatically.
Traffic signals are numbered in these parts. For example, our motel, the Super 8 in Pigeon Forge is between lights 4 and 5. Traffic is heavy and slow, despite 3 lanes each way. Even when NOT crowded. Fortunately wide medians facilitate left turns.
Three lanes way usually crowded in Pigeon Forge
Our Super 8 room had a nice window view
I shopped at Kroeger's (south at traffic light #3). We ate salad stuff I bought plus previous night's left-overs from Nashville's Gerst Haus.
