Day 29 - Saturday, July 17 - Nashville
After breakfast and gym in Mason, Ohio (north of Cincinnatti), travel towards Nashville. Used CheapHotels.com to locate "Rodeway". Renate first called hotel who said no handicapped available. Then called website where ?Lola? claimed they bought up rooms and that "Wheelchair access" = "Handicapped". She booked 3 days (my bad).
Calling hotel again they claimed NOT TRUE about wheelchair = handicap.
Onward to Rodeway at 311 Tinity in Nashville - which had no microwave nor refrigerator as promised by CheapHotels.
Back in Central Time, we had time to find Grand Ole Opry - which I claimed was part of the experience.
Despite Renate's suggestion to call for directions from our hotel (foreshadow), I googled and easily followed map back up to I-65, then Briley Parkway. It was deserted looking. Gate guard explained that flooding had closed the site while repairs done. I needed to go to the original building downtown near Broadway - Ryman Auditorium.
Long loop around, but got there in time. $10 to park in a hurry. $108 admission for two.
Jimmy Dickens Rebecca Lynn Howard Mel Tillis | Bill Anderson Connie Smith Point Of Grace 8:00 – 8:15 INTERMISSION | Jeannie Seely Stonewall Jackson Lee Brice Opry Square Dancers | Riders In The Sky Jim Ed Brown Rodney Crowell |
Left after intermission, Enough for Renate and almost for me. Stopped in the large gift shop and bought Ryman ceramic tile for Peter.
Renate and I both find the city impressive. AT&T, US Bank, Union Station clock tower. And of course Broadway at night.
I briefly tried to find downtown restaurant, but traffic impossible.
No restaurants open near our hotel! (i.e. - the two bar-b-que places were closed).
Bar B Que places closed at 9. Ate at Waffle House. Pork chops and eggs. Renate had Polish sausage and eggs. Bold face = good.
